Treibball

Just play!

A thrilling dog sport for a better relationship with your dog!

What is treibball?

Treibball is a relatively young dog sport that offers adequate physical and mental challenges for our “unemployed” urban dogs to expend their energy. Thanks to its versatility, it has become a popular way to bond with our dogs and improve their fitness.

The basic idea originates from herding, but instead of sheep, we use fitness balls and instead of a pen, we use a goal. Following the owner’s commands, the dog herds the colorful balls into the goal in the correct order and as quickly as possible. Aside from the pleasing sight of colorful balls, treibball is a highly varied, enjoyable, and minimal equipment dog sport that can be played on any flat green area.

Regardless of size, breed, and age, any dog can be suitable for this sport. Not only herding dogs are capable of treibball, as the tasks can be taught to any dog who likes to learn.

Treibball is perfect for maintaining the mental and physical health of older dogs because it does not involve obstacles or jumping that could strain their joints. Even at a slower pace, the playful work brings joy!

With puppies and young dogs, it is important to progress in small steps. Do not overload them, as they cannot focus as well as adult dogs. At this age, it is worth establishing the joy of work and playing.

Participating in competitions does not require a pedigree.

Yes!

In treibball, the ball does not appear as prey. It is not ideal to let the dog drive the fitness ball without control, but there is no harm if the dog is more food-motivated than ball-motivated. Herding the fitness balls is just as much a task as “lie down,” which can be rewarded with a treat or even a ball.

In our training sessions, we also focus on developing the dog’s motivation, because the more things you can reward them with, the more diverse and enjoyable the training will be.

You don’t need many tools for treibball. After mastering the basics, at the beginner level 3, at the intermediate level 6, at the advanced level 8 balls of the appropriate size for the dog and 2 markers are sufficient to train the dog in a variety of ways. It is worth securing the balls on flat ground with a rubber ring.

Not at all!

Focused attention, concentration, and precise execution of tasks are the basis of treibball. In addition, speed and increasing distances are added. All of these mentally and physically challenge the dog in a healthy way. You will definitely see the results!

Why do we love this sport?

Treibball is a very diverse and challenging sport. No two training sessions are the same. The combination of courses is endless, and there are always exciting new challenges waiting for the dog-owner pairs!

In the past, every dog had a function, a job. Nowadays, we mostly keep them for companionship, but their energy and instincts are still present and often lead to behavior problems in the absence of work.

Treibball provides an opportunity for dogs to satisfy their desire for work, exercise their mind and body. At the same time, it builds the bond between the dog and owner and enhances cooperation.

Remote control is not only important during training, but you will also notice that it comes in handy in everyday life, for example during a forest walk. It is not always necessary to use fitness balls for practicing control, any terrain object will do, making the joint walk more fulfilling.

We start building and developing the dog’s concentration already in our START training because it is crucial for them to pay close attention in order to perform well on the course.

We place a great emphasis on active attention, which means that the dog doesn’t just carry out tasks out of habit, but carefully listens to and follows the owner’s instructions.

In treibball, the courses are constantly changing. The dog’s speed is not always constant either, so the handler must also pay attention to timing when giving the correct command to successfully complete the course with the dog.

During competitions, one must learn the course and guide the balls into the goal according to the course layout. This also requires a high level of attention and focus from the handler. This is why this sport is so beautiful, because we mutually pay attention to each other with our dogs!

The precise teaching of basic tasks is important because later the dog accelerates from a greater distance and at higher speeds. If we have taught well, this makes the training pleasantly exhausting for the dog, as it can run as fast as it can, but always needs to pay attention to the next task. You have probably noticed that a tired dog is a good dog. After treibball, you can be sure that your dog has received both mental and physical exhaustion.

The fitness balls used in treibball are not meant for the dog to puncture in a split second, but rather to guide under the control of the handler towards the goal. Instead of prohibition and arguing, it is worth paying attention from the basics to prevent the dog from having the opportunity to drive the balls without control, and to wait for the handler’s permission. Playful tasks can be used to build this self-control, which will also mean a lot for your relationship.

Treibball is an endless sport. You can always make it a little more challenging or twist it to keep improving.

Training together is the best! More eyes see more from the outside. We can help each other and celebrate each other’s successes together. Treibball has a great community-building effect.

Group training greatly contributes to successful performances in competitions, as dogs gradually get used to working among richer stimuli.

Our motto is that treibball is a game that embodies the attitude towards training and competition. During training, it is important for both the dog and the handler to enjoy what they are doing. Fun exercises and positive experiences on the competition field help the dog to love working together with the handler, whether it is for sport or everyday life.
